Building Faith & Minds for the Future

Welcome!
I am Mrs. Gardner, and I’m thrilled to be your child’s second grade teacher. This will be my second year teaching second grade, and my ninth year as part of the Saint Mary School family—a community I truly love.
I am a career educator with a master’s degree in elementary education, a bachelor’s degree in general education, and an associate’s degree in early childhood education. Over the years, I’ve taught in both public and private schools in New York City and Long Island, experiences that have shaped my teaching and strengthened my passion for helping every child succeed.
My career began as a substitute teacher, where I gained experience across all grade levels, K–12. I then served as a special education teacher in the Bronx for eight years, working with students from kindergarten through second grade who had diverse learning needs. Later, I taught both sixth grade and second grade at a private school on Long Island before taking time to raise my children. I returned to teaching in 2015, spending several years in third grade, and now feel blessed to be back in second grade—especially as I help guide our children in preparing for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion.
My goal for our class is to create a comfortable, collaborative, and faith-filled environment where every child feels valued and inspired to do their best. I want students to develop a love of learning, take risks with confidence, and celebrate their individual strengths. Together, we will focus on building kindness, respect, and responsibility while strengthening skills in reading, writing, and math. Just as importantly, I will guide students in their spiritual growth by nurturing their relationship with God and preparing them for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion. Above all, I hope to foster a classroom family where students support one another, grow in faith, and discover the joy of learning.
Thank you for your support as we embark on this second grade journey together!
